Manila, Philippines Earthquake - 6.0 Magnitude

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake shook Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon past noon Thursday, state seismologists said.

The west region of Manila remained rocked on Thursday when a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck it, causing people frightened and buildings shaken. The frightened people ran out of their office buildings to prevent themselves from expected disaster that could create deaths for many. For whole 30 seconds, the Philippines’ capital remained in a miserable condition where buildings were shaking like the leaves of trees. The faces of the people became pale and they were praying for the safety of their lives and their family at home. Luckily, no tsunami alert was issued and also there were no immediate reports of casualties and damage. The director for The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology told that earlier, they had reports that they had a 6.2-magnitude earthquake but after receiving the more field data they came into conclusion that actually the right intensity of the quake was 6.0 that did not trigger significant damage in Manila.

Editha Vargaz of the Land Bank told reporters that she and other dozen of colleagues who were working at the 31st floor of the 34-story building climbed down the stairs to the street calmly as they knew what they should do during stress hours like that. Ralph Balmaceda who works for a travel agency at the 7th floor of a 14-story building situated very close to the Editha Vargaz’s Land Bank, told that there were no calmness in their offices and people actually shoved others to reach at floor quickly.

According to the director Solidum, the point of origin for the quake was situated at Lubang Island in Mindoro Occidental province, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) southwest of Manila, six miles (10 kilometers) under the seabed
